'Sane' was born in Kampala, Uganda in 1979 and graduated in fine arts with first class honours from Makerere University in 2001.  He has exhibited in Scotland, Africa, USA, Germany, Greece, Japan and Australia, and has had annual solo exhibitions since 2002.  He is currently pursuing a master's degree.

Eria views his art career as a journey,  dominated by "my struggle with mediocrity. The conditions of life in Uganda tend to favour mediocrity".  He feels surrounded by talented people who don't realise their potential. He thinks about his potential and how he must find a way to battle mediocrity and conquer it, aiming to do the best he can.

"Hung Out To Dry"  acrylic on canvas  67x83cm

".....talks about how much we fight our consciences when situations we know are wrong continue to exist. The clothes on the clothing line represent our consciences. It is amazing how Africa ended up being poorer at a time when all other continents have grown economically. I see Africa as the clothes put on the line to dry. We are being 'hung out to dry' by the rest of the world.  How we get ourselves out of this situation will depend on our response to the underlying issues".   Sane

"Green Birds"  acrylic on canvas  53x39cm

Sane has painted a series of birds, of varying sizes, enquiring into the theme of evolution. "......evolution theory suggests that the origin of life is mysterious, but that its continuous transformation tends to lead to better specimens, .........crude and simple to the more elaborate. The question is whether the newer specimens from evolution are better than their predecessors. The irony of it is that we as the 'newest' members of our family are more destructive and selfish than those before us."    Sane
