Ismail was born in 1982 in Uganda.He has a fine arts honours degree (BIFA Hons) majoring in drawing from Makerere University, Uganda.
Damba’s inspiration is drawn from his environment; nature and human relations. His love of wildlife, particularly birds, is unmistakable. The egrets, herons, marabou stalks, peacocks and guinea fowls. “They live in a better world than we.” Ismail is a participant in the East Africa Art Biennale. In 2006, the World Bank acquired seven of his woodcuts and paintings which are now in its permanent collection in Washington DC. Beyond Africa Ismail has exhibited in France, Germany, Denmark, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK, USA and Canada.
